Not all books with an international flavor had to be imported. In some juvenile books published in the United States from the 1920s through 1940s, European émigré artists opted to share a taste of their old world traditions with the children of their newly adopted home. Miska Petersham (in collaboration with his Vermont-born wife, Maud) created the art for this widely praised volume in a style reminiscent of the brightly decorative folk art of his native Hungary.
