Persepolis tells the story of author Marjane Satrapi's life in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, detailing her childhood and her adult life after the revolution. The black-and-white comic shows the stark differences Satrapi finds between her home life and public life. Satrapi illustrates the events of the revolution through the eyes of a child, giving the reader a story that is both personal and political.
