Description
Image of an editorial clipping edited from a digitized version of a page from the February 16, 1922 issue of The Minnesota Daily student newspaper (2). The image is a composite of two (2) "clippings" as the text of the article is printed in two (2) separate columns in the original layout of the page. The text is as follows:
"Representatives of various unofficial University organizations will meet today with a special committee appointed by the deans of the University to eliminate confusion and misunderstanding regarding the publication of notices in the Official UNIVERSITY Bulletin. According to a ruling passed last year, the Official UNIVERSITY Bulletin is devoted exclusively to official notices. Student notices are to be cared for by The Minnesota Daily.
As a result of the ruling passed last year, the Daily this year started the Official STUDENT Bulletins to care for student notices. All notices of student interest will be printed in this column free of charge, the only provisions being that they must be in the Daily office by 4 p.m. on the day preceding that on which they are to appear. The Daily makes no attempts to “edit” the notices in the Student Bulletin. They appear in the form in which they are submitted.
Under the circumstances, it seems unnecessary and unwise to change the ruling regarding notices in the Official DAILY Bulletin. If the Official DAILY Bulletin were thrown open to all student notices, it would have to be enlarged to something like the size of the Daily, and the Daily would automatically go out of existence as the result of competition with a publication supported by the state. If the ruling is changed even a little, there will always be resulting injustices and complaints of discrimination.
Why not leave the line where it is now - the Official STUDENT Bulletin for student notices, and the Official UNIVERSITY Bulletin for faculty and administrative notices? The Student Bulletin is designed to provide a universal bulletin board for all student organizations. The Daily not only accepts, but welcomes, all notices of student interest. Organizations would solve their difficulties quickly if they would use the facilities already at their disposal. The method is simple: Use the Official STUDENT Bulletin, and require members of your organization to be responsible for notices appearing therein."
