The image is a composite of two (2) "clippings" as the text of the letter is printed in two (2) separate columns on the original layout of the page. The text is as follows:
"Editor Ariel: The question whether our college paper should be changed from a weekly to a tri-weekly is, it seems to me, no insignificant question. It seems to me it is a question whether the high character and good quality of our paper shall be impaired by replacing it with a more frequent but poorer issue. We have just cause to be proud of our college paper; it is above the average college paper in quality of make-up. How nice it is to get the Ariel on Saturday and have presented before you a view of the week’s life at the U. It comes as a real treat at the close of the week’s work.
Now if we change it, and have an issue every other day, the significance of the paper will be altered. It will tend to become a common and prosaic affair. Its literary and artistic qualities will be impaired, and its present high character will be liable to disappear.
And all for what? Is it merely to gratify the feeling that we are so important that a weekly isn’t good enough for us? Aside from football news, what is there that demands such hasty publication? Important matters are daily announced in chapel.
I, for one, would not like to see the proposed change brought into effect, for it seems to me it is bound to make our paper inferior in character. Let us not be led by an impulse before thinking twice. O.F.H. ‘02"
