Description

Image of a clipping of a newspaper editorial titled, "The Student's Paper," edited from a digitized version of a page from the September 11, 1900 issue of the The Minnesota Daily student newspaper (page 2). The text is as follows:

"The Daily extends greetings to all the students, new and old, and wishes them a happy and successful year. For the first time in the history of the University, the students are given a paper the first day of the University year. The Daily will be published every morning except Monday and will be ready for distribution at eight o’clock. For the first three days the paper will be given free to every student. After that time it will be received by subscribers through their postoffice boxes. The paper is published by a Board of Editors chosen by a Board of Directors elected by the students and faculty. The subscription price of the Daily is $2.00 per year or 75 cents per term.

The paper aims to give the students and friends of the University all the news of the day; it serves the University’s interests as the daily papers serve the city’s and the world’s news. It is distinctively the students’ paper and a students’ paper. It invites, therefore, the patronage of the student and alumni bodies, and urges them to subscribe for it.

Students who were subscribers last year will notice some changes in the make up of the paper. The new heading was designed by C. Otto Rosendahl, ‘01, and is, the editors, believe, an improvement over the head used last year. The arrangement of the advertising is changed for various reasons, and new faces of type have been used in the headlines. The editors and business managers will use their utmost endeavors to make the paper pleasing, popular and the organ of the students. The subscription price is the lowest of any college daily in the United States."
