ORGANIZE THE
WHITE
COMMUNITY!

ISSUE: THREE INDICTED BLACK STUDENTS

WHY INDICTED: On Jan. 14, 1969, black and white students took over Morrill Hall
in a desperate attempt to get the University to provide more aid to minority groups.
This issue had been ducked by the University administration for nearly a year. After
the take-over, without waiting for the results of the University Commission report,
the Hennepin County Grand Jury indicted Horace Huntley, Rosemary Freeman, Warren
Tucker, et al. for damages (which the U. Commission report later described as "surprisingly
moderate"), inciting "unknown persons" to riot and unlawful assembly.

WHY WE OPPOSE: We question 1) the legality of such general indictments, 2) the in-
terference of the county government in a matter properly the University's, 3) the senti-
ment that property rights are more important than human rights, 4) the obviously
racist intent of the indictments, and 5) the contravening of basic civil and human
rights.

ACTION PLANNED: On Oct. 20 the trial of the three students is to take place. On this
date Liberation Coalition, a body of many diverse campus, community and church organizations
plans a rally at 9:15 at Coffman Union and a march to the courthouse to express our
protest. A Sunday night kick-off rally is also planned. Mass support on Monday the 20th
is necessary to make such a demonstration meaningful.

WHY PARTICIPATE: For students it is clear, we are all implicated. The indictment reads
Jane Doe and Richard Roe, which is us. These are fellow students unfairly persecuted
and we must remember that white students as well as blacks all across the country are
being increasingly discriminated against. We must show solidarity with our black brothers.
For the white community around the city, march with us to demonstrate support. March to
show the power structure that justice is the basis of legality. March against the
subverting of the law for political and racist intent, the issue affects YOU! Help
preserve legitimate dissent. You too could join the ranks of the oppressed.

Blacks and students do not want to take away your homes or infringe upon your lives;
what we want is a share, a share in the process of determining our lives.

MARCH WITH US! OCTOBER 20 TO THE COURTHOUSE! PARENTS, WORKERS, BUSINESSMEN, ALL--
THE STRUGGLE IS YOURS TOO

Students take this back into your communities and stir up and organize mass support
for this necessary action. For contributions to the Legal Defense Fund and further
information, call LIBERATION COALITION, Room 213, Coffman Union, U of M, 373-2414.
