2012 Gallery Exhibition

http://gallery.lib.umn.edu/archive/original/def00d8cf8b74448b019152205ece1ee.JPG

The theme of this exhibit was inspired by Berhard von Breydenbach’s Peregrinatio in Terram Sanctam (Mainz, 1486) and the engraving of Venice done by Edward Reuwich.  Jordana Reese, who was completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design at the University of Minnesota, became fascinated by this wonderful woodcut panorama of Venice in Breydenbach’s pilgrimage account through her visits to the Bell Library with Professor Barbara Martinson’s History of Graphic Design class.  From the original woodcut of Reuwich, sized approximately 60” x 12”, Jordana created her own watercolors in 9 images measuring 12” x 15”.  Those images were scanned, enlarged and installed by Darren Terpstra, U of MN Libraries Exhibit and Multimedia Designer to create a mural measuring approximately 6’ feet high by 32’ feet.  Jordana’s work was reproduced on the promotional material for the exhibit and other related lectures and events that took place throughout the semester.  These events were co-sponsored by University and public partners such as the Center for Early Modern History, the Institute for Advanced Study and the Italian Cultural Center.  Further information about these partnerships is best had by contacting Dr. Marguerite Ragnow (ragn0001@umn.edu)
