I am also attaching a copy of an 8th Circuit Court of Appeals case entitled Stanley v. Magrath. As that court held, “(I)t is clear that the First Amendment prohibits the Regents from taking adverse action against the Daily because the contents of the paper are occasionally blasphemous or vulgar… (O)ffense to good taste, no matter how great, does not justify restriction of speech.
In closing, I respect your sentiments and do not condone insensitivity against any group or religion. At the same time, I trust that you appreciate the University’s obligations under the constitution and the law.
