Main Building (Old Main), 1904

Black and white print photograph depicting the Main Building (Old Main) on the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus that illustrates the attempt to extinguish a fire that broke out in the building in the early morning of September 24, 1904. The building is depicted in the background with broken windows and a collapsed roof and wall sections. The streams of four (4) water hoses are angled upward at the building. Smoke and spray are depicted surrounding the building. In the foreground to the north and east of the building several persons are standing. Hoses wind along the sidewalk and onto the street. A steam powered fire engine vehicle is parked on the street in front of the building. Steam is eminating upward in a black cloud from the vehicle.
