Image of a clipping of an article edited from digitized versions of pages from the September 27, 1904 issue of The Minnesota Daily student newspaper (1, 3). The image is a composite of two (2) "clippings" as the text of the article is printed on two (2) separate pages in two (2) separate columns in the original layout of the pages. The text is as follows:
"The Daily Scores a Triumph with the First Extra Ever Gotten Out
'The Minnesota Daily, which is edited entirely by students, came to the front in newspaper work yesterday and for the first time in the history of the paper, issued an extra. All the details connected with the fire were told interestingly and in a style that would have done credit to a professional newspaper writer.' - Minneapolis Tribune
The above clipping is one of the many instances of honorable mention which were received by the Daily for the spirit and enterprise exhibited in getting out its "Fire Extra.”
When the difficulties under which the staff labored are taken into consideration, the Daily feels justified in considering its work not only creditable but worthy of the highest commendation.

The Fire Extra
In the first place our office was gutted. Notwithstanding, the staff, which is, by the way, still, for the most part, inexperienced, immediately reported for work to the managing editor, and a temporary office was arranged in the Y.W.C.A. office. Here two typewriters were kept busy taking dictation.
The news was rounded into shape with the greatest dispatch, and despite the most trying delays, the paper went to press at 1:30 and at 3 o’clock the Minnesota Daily had the first and a complete “Fire Extra” on the street.
That the extra was popular was proved at the football game, and the demand continued all day Monday, when a large number were sold in the Library Building."
