Nancy Carlson has lived in Minnesota all her life. On her website, she shares that in kindergarten she was sure she wanted to “Make pictures and tell stories!” She has published more than sixty books.

The comic books she loved to read as a child influenced her style of drawing and use of color. Many of Carlson’s stories are taken from her own childhood experiences. After graduating from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a major in printmaking, and while working at Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center, she became fascinated with children’s books and began to write and illustrate her own stories.

Recognition for her published work includes several Reading Rainbow selections, the Children’s Choice Award from the International Reading Association and Children’s Book Council, the Minnesota Children’s Museum Great Friends to Kids Award, and several others.
