Gustaf Tenggren, illustrator
Janette Lowrey Sebring, author
Simon & Schuster, 1942

Gustaf Tenggren was born in Sweden. Illustrating traditional Swedish folklore and myth, he became highly regarded in Sweden for his romanticism and draftsmanship. He was invited to work for Disney as a concept artist working on the films Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi and Pinocchio. In 1942, he left Disney and changed his art style, dropping the delicate pen and watercolor work; he adopted the bold bright flat colors of tempera and went on to work for Little Golden Books, creating the works he is most famous for, such as The Poky Little Puppy and many others.
