Betsy Lewin was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Growing up, drawing and painting were her main interests. She graduated from Pratt Institute in 1959 with a BFA. Lewin has been a freelance writer and illustrator creating art for her fictional stories and her real life adventures, as well as an illustrator of other authors' stories, most often featuring animals. In 1963, she married fellow author and illustrator, Ted Lewin. The experiences of the Lewin's world travels have made their way into many of their books. Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type was a 2001 Caldecott Honor Book and one of the Top 100 Pictures Books from a poll of School Library Journal.
