Rhyme Time
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - 4:00 - 4:15 p.m.
Since its inauguration on the “KUOM for Kids” series, this program has also proved popular enough to become a permanent KUOM feature. As initially planned, “Rhyme Time” was to consist of readings of poetry from selected children’s books and anthologies.
After the first few broadcasts, listeners were encouraged to send in their own original effects to be read on the air. After two or three broadcasts, child listeners were contributing all the program material. The poems were then incorporated into mimeographed booklets and sent to all contributors. Result: 864 original poems submitted between August 2 and September 13. Ages ranged from 3 to 13.
