Anxious to launch her career, Beatrix Potter first self-published The Tale of Peter Rabbit with black and white art. The following year, in response to the strong Christmas-time demand, she arranged for commercial publication, this time with color illustration.
The first book on this page is one of the original self-published editions of The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
The second book is from is a first edition of the commerical printing. Doctor Kerlan's note tucked inside the front cover of this copy reads:
(This copy is from the author's own library which accounts for it's immaculate condition. It has all the "points" of the 1st issue.
