Sex Work

Prostitutes were viewed as both corruptors and victims. Anti-prostitution reformers often perceived and categorized them as either “wise” and beyond help or “innocent” and still worth saving.  They also connected prostitution to low pay for young women working in factories or stores, and viewed sex work as trafficking systems of profit and exploitation.
